Want to see great things happen for young people and music in Gloucestershire?

So do we – and we want to put YOU in the driving seat.

If you fancy getting together with like-minded musicians, having a say in things that happen in the county, making things helping yourself with support from us (things that’ll help you make music, get better at it, and help more young people get involved) then contact us.

We meet monthly, usually on a Wednesday, at The Cavern, College Street, Gloucester, and usually from 5-6pm. Watch out on our Instagram, Twitter and Facebook accounts for the latest dates (see the top banner on this website) or sign up to our enews and select ‘Young Person’. Or check out this page for information from past meetings.

Dan Kostine and Dan Ackland are two young producers/DJs who are spearheading the regular get-togethers, and the first project we’re working on. The two Dans had an idea to arrange a networking event this March to raise the profile of young Gloucestershire-based producers/DJs, along with musicians of other genres who are interested in collaborating. This will be ahead of a bigger event / gig in the summer.

Whether you’re a musician interested in making things happen, raising your profile, learning more about the industry; or someone who loves music and wants to help promote it, or lend your ideas and skills, everyone’s welcome.

Want to know a bit more?

As part of Make Music Gloucestershire, the county’s music education hub, we’ve spent the last year talking to young people informally and formally, in school and out of school, to find out what they think and what they want. They told us:

There are barriers to making and learning music:

The music taught in schools did not match their passions and interests.

There was a lack of opportunities outside of school to match their passions and interests.

They were keen to see developed, or develop themselves:

Young-people-friendly spaces/venues where they could meet, rehearse/jam, record, perform or watch.

Regular meet-ups for musicians.

An online space where they could network, promote or find out about their music and performances.

Making things happen themselves and having a say.

We now want to find a core group of young people (which will evolve over time) to put some of these things into action. It’ll be fun, you’ll get great opportunities, and you’ll be in the driving seat.

Who’s behind this?

This work is being led by The Music Works on behalf of Make Music Gloucestershire, the county’s music education hub, a partnership of organisations and individuals wanting to get more young people learning and making music. We’ve had help from Wired4Music, the young Londoner’s music council, The Cavern, Gloucester and Gloucestershire College.
