Our Early Years Programme lead Ali Harmer spoke about ICT and music at MERYC’s Network event in May 2015 “Harness the Power of Early Years in your Music Hub” at Berkshire Maestros in Reading. Ali’s presentation “All-singing, all-dancing technology and musical children” looked at how ICT can be appropriate and helpful to musical activities for young children, including those with special needs and revealed how musical thinkers are “computational thinkers”. Attributes like persistence, creativity, collaboration, the willingness to try new things and tinker with the result, spotting patterns and being able to think analytically are valued in the computer programmers of tomorrow. Coincidentally they also describe the attributes of a good musician today!
